“My father was an Italian man — a World War II veteran, public school teacher, and Juilliard graduate. My mother was an immigrant from Ecuador who came here with $20 in her pocket, lived in an abandoned building, worked in a sweatshop, and became a home attendant.”
Anthony grew up in Brooklyn Heights, surrounded by million-dollar brownstones while his family paid $150 a month for their rent-controlled apartment. His father’s pension after teaching was just $400 a month — not nearly enough to live on.
“My dad had to hustle. He became a street entertainer in Little Italy with a blue-and-gold macaw on his shoulder. He’d place the bird on tourists, snap a Polaroid, and charge $3.”
It wasn’t glamour — it was grit. And in that grind, Anthony learned the essence of entrepreneurship: resourcefulness, resilience, and pride in honest work.
